Hi I’m Simon Mole and I am a poet!
I’m a National Poetry Day Ambassador, with over ten years’ experience using rap and poetry in community and education settings. This year in the lead up to National Poetry Day I am running a free live lesson Write-along for years 2, 3 & 4 on on Wednesday 4th October. Your class will join thousands of other children across the country to play some fun (and quite silly) games, and create their own poetic masterpieces. I will be delivering a brand new workshop, inspired by this year's NPD theme of Refuge - and a huge herd of dinosaurs!

Once you sign up below you will be sent the zoom links and any tips to prepare your class in advance of the workshop, including a printable sheet with sentence starters for younger groups and/or reluctant writers.

Wednesday 4th October 11am - 11.50am (Years 2, 3 & 4)

And here is a fun 1 minute video of me performing a poem that you could show your class so they have met me before the workshop. It features one of my favourite dinosaurs, and ten thousand cats…

If they are keen to do have a go at some poetry themselves before the session, they could try this fun interactive tutorial video which takes them through a step by step process to write an (actually genuinely good) 5 line poem in 5 minutes. Realistically this may take 15 minutes (but it didn’t sound as good as a title!) depending how independently your children scribe and/or how much assistance and motivation is needed to get them writing!
