It's Chill Pill East time!

We never have enough time at our theatre events to get everyone on the open mic, and we want to try new stuff as well! So Chill Pill East was born. An entirely open mic event within spitting distance of Hackney Downs.

http://www.starbyhackneydowns.co.uk/

Chill Pill started out in 2010 as an open mic night in a basement in Bethnal Green which grew in popularity by the week. It was a safe and vibrant environment for poets and musicians to perform their work in progress. We miss it, so we're bringing that back. We'll be trying new works, having some jokes, playing some tunes and eating some pizza. Come do that as well!

It's back to roots for us.

Wednesday December 11th

£3 on the door.

Open mic-ers sign up at the venue.

Bring a poem and a nice hat.

"Here is an art that remains fresh and undefined" - 4 out of 5 stars The Telegraph

After the poetry and music fuelled joy-fest that was 'The Big One', we're back at The Albany to flash our freshly starched poetry pants at y'all. As per usual we've got some exciting, meaty treats in store:

JOELLE TAYLORS IN THE HOUSE!!! Joelle is an OG of the spoken word scene. She's been doing this for tiiiiime. Since 1986! She's shared a stage with everyone who's anyone in poetry, from Benjamin Zephaniah to Simon Armitage to Carol Ann Duffy to Scroobius Pip. She is a poet, a playwright, an artisitic Director, a facilitator and a BEAST. Her poetry is visceral, dreamlike, vivid and brilliant. And she rocks a stage like no one else. Come see!

Music Act TBC. But you know it's gonna be good, right?

Doors at 7.30. Dress code: Thursday best.

We can't wait!

Chill Pill is BACK with a brand new show for 2013: Chill Pill Connect.

We're hooking up with The Roundhouse team to create a live, interactive radio show, and we need YOU to get involved.

Chill Pill Connect brings you all the goodness you've come to expect from the Chill Pill Team, the tunes, the banter, and of course, the poetry, but this time there's a twist.

Connect is being recorded and then moulded by the magic of Roundhouse technology, into a full blown spoken word audio feast. And two open mic-ers will have their poems broadcast as a part of the upcoming show.

This is a brand new concept for Chill Pill and we're very excited to offer up and coming artists the opportunity to be involved.

We'll have eight open mic slots but it's guaranteed to fill up so arrive early to secure a place.
