I was commissioned by City of London to write original poetry inspired by London, which was exhibited in the gallery as the culmination of a creative engagement program with the City of London Youth Forum. Listen to one piece: London is… by SimonMole
I planned and delivered a range of activities, using spoken word and rap as part of a wider project aiming to build a sense of connection between the young people and the venue, as well as increasing their sense of ownership and understanding of the heritage and history of their city more generally. The project was guided by the ideas and decisions of the young people, who were vocal in their support of my involvement. As well as running writing workshops I created and led a gallery tour using original poetry as a route to discussion and a variety of creative responses from young people.
The gallery and the amphitheatre at the Guildhall are great places to visit. Find out more on their website: http://www.guildhallartgallery.cityoflondon.gov.uk/gag/
